Remote Learning Update

It been about a month and remote learning is going well. 

Her teacher is awesome - very organized and patient. Beanie loves her and I like that she is constantly trying to make things easy for the kids and parents in terms of what work is due and when.

The schedule is as follows:

8:00am -- Class begins, there is about 15 min of morning meet and greet
8:15 to 9am -- ELA (English Language Arts) followed by some self-directed assignments
9-9:30 -- Enrichment (on Tue and Thurs)
10am -10:45 --  Math followed by some self-directed assignment
11-1pm -- Lunch/recess/Specials
1-1:30pm -- Social Studies or Science, followed with some self-directed assignments

Starting this week there is coursework being added for Art, PE and Music that the kids need to complete. We will pick the days we want to do each Special and schedule it from 12:30-1pm.

Last week Beanie had her Star Math test and Reading. The parents were asked to not help of course. It went well. Tomorrow she has a 1-1 Zoom with her teacher for DIBEL test.

Beanie is getting comfortable with logging into Zoom and following instructions. She gets her work done quickly and is showing motivation which is good. I no longer have to bader her to get her work done. She is getting graded on the assignments and its motivating her to do her best. Plus the kids are all super-smart so she is being challenged.

There are times when she will come to me and ask what to write or for help. I do not to give her answers but assist her by getting her thinking about what is being asked and guiding her. She understands that if she was in school she would have to do the work independently. 

Overall I am quite pleased. 

We go outside for some fresh air in the morning before school begins, and then for a walk around 10:45 after Math. That way she get some outside time. My work kicks into high gear at 11:30am until about 6 pm, so during that time she has lunch (which I pack) and will do specials and Science. After that she plays with her legos and then gets a snack around 3pm. Its get boring for her from 3-6pm but she manages to do stuff including watch TV for a bit or talk to my Mom on the phone.

It is not ideal. I would love for her to be in school, but this is working.

 Also i expect the volume of school work to get more as the weeks pass by so she will have less spare time during the school day.
